Katherine passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida surrounded by family. She was born in Montgomery, Alabama to Henry Grady Petrey and Susie Lucile Robinson Petrey and spent her first 3 years in Petrey, Alabama before her family moved to Haines City, Florida. Katherine attended local schools in Haines City with her 3 brothers and one sister.
Katherine married Quinton Gill Minor on May 3, 1941 at the Petrey family home in Haines City. Quinton and all 3 of Katherine's brothers served in the armed forces during World War II. Katherine's brother Karl was killed by enemy fire in Italy and he was buried there. Katherine spent the war years in Haines City helping her father run his Petrey's Dry Goods business.
Quinton was honorably discharged from the army in 1944 in Miami Beach, Florida.
In 1945, Quinton and Katherine moved to Delray Beach, Florida where a few years later they opened Minor's Ready to Wear Store which they operated until 1987 when they retired.
Quinton and Katherine had 4 children, all of whom survive. Quinton Grady Minor, Naples, Florida (wife Nancy Price Minor), Roger Thomas Minor, Houston, Texas (wife Harriet Barnett Minor), Kaye Minor, Tallahassee, Florida and Mark Woodrow Minor, Naples, Florida (July Adarmes Minor). Katherine is also survived by grandchildren Robin Kaye Minor, Taylor Christopher Minor, Melissa Minor Purgason, M.D., Meredith Merchant Carroll, Michael Ross Merchant, Mallory Katherine Minor and Quinton Henry Minor. Great grandchildren Lynlee Kaye Carroll, Kathryn Reese Carroll and Camille Carroll. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband Quinton and grandchild Jill Ellen Minor.
Katherine moved to Naples, Florida in August, 1997 to be near her sons Grady and Mark.
Katherine was a fun loving spirit. She loved people, playing cards, dancing and attending horse races. She assisted Quinton in running their store while she raised their 4 children.
Katherine attended the First Baptist Church. She was a person of great faith and was ready to meet her God and be reunited with Quinton.
Katherine will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Fuller Funeral Home on Pine Ridge Road in Naples.
