Arthur believes Pietersen lost England?s trust ? Cricket News Update

Mickey Arthur, the Australian coach, believes that Kevin Pietersen has lost his team?s trust after sending controversial text messages to some of the South African players and said that the great batsman?s future in international cricket looks uncertain.

The 32-year-old cricketer has not been enjoying good terms with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) since the start of this year. The right-handed batsman announced his retirement from the shorter versions of the game earlier this year, only to take it back recently through a video message.

The South Africa born player was dropped from the English team for the third Test against the Proteas, as the Poms looked to save their number one Test ranking, which they failed to do so.

During the second match of the series at Headingley, Pietersen sent derogatory text messages to South African cricketers, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn.

Arthur, who was previously South Africa?s mentor before taking over the role with the Australian side, thinks that trust is the most important factor in a team sport and Pietersen seems to have lost it. He appreciated the way things were handled by ECB, which refused to compromise on discipline even at the most crucial stage of the series.

"It takes time to mend," Arthur said. "They say trust and reputation takes a year to two years to really build, and you can lose it in two minutes. I think that?s where they?ve got to with KP now. England have dealt with it in the best possible way. The way they?ve handled it has been clinical. It?s been very good."

Some of the sporting analysts slammed the selectors for being too harsh with the lanky batsman but Arthur is of the opinion that the players must understand that they are not bigger than the game.

"There?s no one guy that?s bigger than the team and England must?ve thought that KP had got to that point. It was tough for them. It was pretty unsettling, but I think they?ve handled it very well," he added.

Pietersen has not been picked for the forthcoming ICC World T20 2012 either, which commences next month.
