Considering the types of vehicle classes that car rental businesses ...

Car rental companies provide a wide range of choices to the consumer by offering many different models and prices of car to choose from. Although the details may vary among companies, there are some broad categories which are standard for most rental agencies.

Economical Cars

The cars in this class are smaller and get great gas mileage. They?re usually designated as economy cars or compact cars. For many companies, economy and compact are actually two separate rental categories which carry a different price range and slightly different models. The compact cars are often slightly larger than the economy cars.

Standard Rentals

Standard, midsize and full size vehicles are generally offered by rental agencies at the next level up. Midsize cars are larger than either economy or compact, and standard or full size cars may seat an extra person. Usually the total seating for these mid-range cars is between four and five people, including the driver. Renting a standard car also indicates ample trunk room for baggage.

Larger Vehicles

There are a range of vehicles that are more suitable for extra passengers, which are offered to larger parties by car rental companies. This class of car includes minivans, SUVs and full size vans. Some rental agencies will further break these categories into designation between small SUVs and standard SUVs. Luxury SUVs are another option as well. Many agencies offer pick-up truck rentals as well.

Premium Rentals

Finally, there is always the option of luxury or premium rentals. Examples of the vehicle models which may be considered in this category include high-end brand names like Lexus and Mercedes, or simply flashier cars like convertibles.

Choosing Your Car

Making the final decision about your car rental will depend on several different factors: the number of people you?ll need to seat, how much luggage you?ve taken on your trip, and the capacity of the vehicle (for example, if you?ll require four-wheel drive or other special features). Budget, too, is another important factor to consider. Regardless of your vacation plans, one thing is sure: car rental companies are happy to provide a variety of options to ensure that you find the right vehicle for your next trip away from home.
